Want to become an investor, need some advice

I need someone's advice here... I am 19 years old (almost 20) and I am hoping to have a career in real estate investing for my future. My mom wants me to go to college but I really do not want to go, hate school and it's just not worth it to me. I was just wondering if anyone can give me advice as to what steps I should take in the near future to help me start becoming a successful real estate investor.. Would getting my real estate license and working for a company as a realator help me get a jump start as an investor? And instead of schooling can I just read a lot of books to knowledge myself on becoming an investor? Please help! Any advice to me helps I am young with a good/open mind set and I needs advice. Thank you!
