What is the best way to research your community and surroundings?

Hello, everyone! I'm looking into buying a house soon in my area, which is Bell Air, MD. What is the best way to research your area? I want to get a general idea of what the property may be worth in the future or if it will become more populated here. Are there any specific sites you guys use to research your prospective area?

I will live in the house, plan on bringing a roommate.  I've been here only 2 months. I think I have an idea of what kind of population lives here. Seems like some students (Harford college, University of Maryland Medical Campus), some military, many various types of professionals. Seems like the area will develop further since there are so many new townhouse complexes around. Some are in the process still. This is more of suburbs here, I believe that many people work in Baltimore area.

Thank you for help! Any advice is appreciated.
