Out of State Turnkey for Newbie

How's it going BP? Newbie to REI but definitely committed. Im currently stationed in Oahu Hawaii and living within the Dorms ( i.e. Barracks) on base. So my one and only income isn't so great and as many of you know, Hawaii is not cheap and probably not the best place to start investing for me. If I were able to move off base, I could use the VA loan to my advantage but I dont have that option for a couple years. So I have been prepping myself by eliminating all my unnecessary debts, saving up as much money as possible and educating myself. Within my studies and help from a co-worker, I came across Turnkeys. To me it seems like a pretty legit way to start off since most of the work is done for you but of course I will be doing my due diligence and staying patient like most of you preach. I came across some Turnkey websites like midsouthhomebuyers.com (by recommendation of my co-worker), roofstock.com, noradarealestate.com and others by using turnkey-reviews.com. I'm interested in investing in Tennessee and Florida because of the affordable market and I have family in both states so I could catch a flight out, visit them and have boots on ground. Investing in places I like to travel to. So to you REI pros out there, what are some great websites or resources I should be aware of? Are websites like Roofstock and Norada recommended? Am I thinking and looking in the right directions? Any help and advice is appreciated. Thank you all.

Hello @Eric Moreno

Thanks for your service. Can you bring an M4 home as a souvenier??:)

I always tell people to beware turnkeys. You can find a reputable company but you will find many many posters on BP that have used a TK provider and aren't making money. They are retail sellers. As an alternative, find a good honest agent, double check everything to tell you to make sure they are putting YOUR interest first, make offers on what you like (below market), and then when you get a deal put a PM in place. What area of FL do you have family in? Having someone local in the minimum in case of emergency is always a plus.

Look at www.turnkey-reviews.com. The man that had the original concept is a main poster on BP.
