doing a research in regards multifamily homes

Hi My husband and I are considering purchasing our first multifamily home instead of a home to build wealth and to make this a career. However we do not know anything about this business I am currently working in a hotel and my husband is an electrician So you can imagine we are workers trying to get in the game. Any suggestions for us will be very appreciated we have a choice to buy our first home with the FHA loan program but as much as we keep comparing a home vs a multifamily home I believe a multi family home might be the best smart choice the bank is only asking us for a 3% down. I've only done research online in regards LLC licence pros and cons insurance , management rules in California ect. and for some reason everyone (not investors) keep telling us we are thinking too big and we should start with a home.
