Complete Newbie.

Hi guys. I just recently became interested in REI but really have no prior knowledge before I started listening to some podcasts, reading blogs, ect and I am completely overwhelmed by all the information. My questions is, how long did it take most of you to take a step to making your first deal? I guess my question is really how long did it take you guys from realizing that you want to become a real estate investor and educating yourself before you made your first deal? Also, were you guys nervous or fearful? Thank you for your time.
