Are trusts a good idea for LLC's

I've used Legal Zoom to create my husband's and my will. Also have power of attorney's and Living Will's done. So, now, we've started real estate investing and we've been told that we need a trust to oversee the LLC's so the pass through is controlled I thing. Anyone have any comments? Even the ones that are clear as mud would help at this time!
