Learning My Market

Hi, I am new to bigger pockets and real estate in general. I have learned a pretty basic knowledge about real estate and how it works and I am looking to get started with investing. However, before I do that I would like to learn about the trends in my market. I am currently living in California and would like to invest in something that is in the state and if possible, in southern California. Like I said, I am new to real estate and don't know how to go about learning the trends in my market. Where is the best place/places to research market trends? For example, what types of houses are selling, and in what areas. I still have a long way to go until I start investing, but in the mean time i'm looking to learn as much as possible, any help would be much appreciated.
