What is rental income?

Hey BP, what exactly is rental income? Is that considered all the rent generated from your tenants? Are there any expenses subtracted from the rent to equate the rental income? Is this only considered cashflow? Does rental income affect my gross income?

I was wondering after listening to the latest podcast. There was a segment where the guest spoke about rental income and having to wait 2 years before a bank would consider loaning money to her based on the rental income "seasoning" period. Thanks in advance.
