Relocate to Austin - Passive Income or Home

Hi Guys!!! I'm looking to relocate to the Austin area but wanting to be thoughtful about how I do that! I'm currently really really wanting a home where I can creat a sustainable lifestyle but also super concerned about making the right financial moves! Do I buy in 6 months of being there or buy a property that I can renovate and rent to creat passive income? Maybe do this a few times and then buy the one!? Or renovate something and live and rent rooms? Or buy something and rent rooms and then eventually buy rentals to creat that passive income!? Thoughts? Thoughts based on similar scenario you've experienced!? Thank in advance! Fauzia
