Investing in NY

Hello everyone!

I've been interested in real estate investing for some quite sometime now. However, I started a business a few years ago and I took the time to grow that. Now that time has come, I'd like to begin a new venture.

I've narrowed it down to house flipping, however, it seems like every 8 in 10 people are doing the same! I'm curious to know if it's even worth to start learning the game and eventually start playing the game.

I've been to a few REI meetings and the competition seems strong.

I'm located on Long Island, in NY.

I also just ordered Jscotts books which seems like a good read (also have read his blog/site)

Besides the MLS, what are some good ways I can look for properties?

I would love to get some information on the house next door as it's been vacant for about 5 years. I tried the town clerks office but was only able to get the owners name which I knew already.

Any other ideas?

Thank You!
