Post: Getting involved in RE development?

I have always had an interest in real estate, especially the development aspect of it. My interest grew high when I started attending REI meetings, however I couldn't go anymore as my their meetings and my schedule with my business/school didn't line up properly.

I went to school for something totally on the different end of business/real estate.

Some have told me to get involved by becoming a RE agent, however that's not quite what I'm really interested in.

I'm located in NYC, so I consider myself in a good spot already. I did find a school that does have a degree in RE development, but I also have been told it would be a waste of time.

I was thinking about reaching out to someone in the field and possibly work with them for free. Any suggestions on how I could possibly get my feet wet in the door would be great!

Also, in regards to development, residential housing/apartments.

Thanks

Hello everyone!

I've been interested in real estate investing for some quite sometime now. However, I started a business a few years ago and I took the time to grow that. Now that time has come, I'd like to begin a new venture.

I've narrowed it down to house flipping, however, it seems like every 8 in 10 people are doing the same! I'm curious to know if it's even worth to start learning the game and eventually start playing the game.

I've been to a few REI meetings and the competition seems strong.

I'm located on Long Island, in NY.

I also just ordered Jscotts books which seems like a good read (also have read his blog/site)

Besides the MLS, what are some good ways I can look for properties?

I would love to get some information on the house next door as it's been vacant for about 5 years. I tried the town clerks office but was only able to get the owners name which I knew already.

Any other ideas?

Thank You!

1) Is it possible to make a living by only flipping houses?

2) Kind of broad question. How much on average does a rehabber make yearly?
