I just applied for a FHA loan on a duplex, any advice?
I'll live in one half for the time being and fix it up to be where I can realistically rent for $650~. The other half has a nice, retired, and disabled lady on a fixed income who's not going anywhere unless some unfortunate, sad events happen.
I've been living and renting out this duplex for a year now, and its solid, no issues, and essentially turn key. It's got two year old central air units on each side, relatively new roof, and in a great neighborhood. My current landlord just needs to liquidate the place, so he can get even on another place he went waaaay upside down on. He's offered to give me first dibs on the place.
I've been blessed with a free college education, and I would like to flex some of this good credit that I've been building. I've just found this site today while searching if others have gone this route, and now I'm curious what I should expect? Given the numbers my broker gave me, and he hasn't fully gone through the application process, I should be paying less for a mortgage, PMI, taxes, and insurance, than I was in rent after it's all said and done, but I'm wondering if there are any hidden fees that I'm not aware about.
