Building a duplex so I can house hack?

I currently live in a 2/2 mobile home, I originally wanted to sell the mobile home, build a traditional 3/2 single family home on the other side of the property, pay it off, then rent it out. But After reading about house hacking though, I'm now considering building a small duplex to house hack. Live in one side and rent the other to pay the mortgage. My line of thinking was, if I'm going to pay my mortgage anyways, why not pay it twice as fast? Then when it's paid off, I'd could move else where and keep the duplex for income. What do y'all think? Any and all info would be great. Thanks, Luke - Millsap, Texas
