Gringo LLC question!

Being new to the US, I'm still learning about the broader pieces of the investment puzzle like Trusts, LLC's etc etc that are frequently suggested - apologies if this is a daft question!

With an LLC, do you also need to register a business name? I thought that the LLC was essentially a company, the LLC name being the business name. (I can't remember where I heard about having to also register a business name).

I asked a local friend who owns a couple of properties and he answered 'yes', but then proceeded to talk about 'Articles of Organization', so I got a bit confused!

My thoughts are, that both of the above points are probably wrapped up in the process of setting up an LLC, but I wanted to check before I'd dove in head first!

Thanks!

G
