Where is a good place to start?

I am currently finishing up college while working as IT/Software support in NYC. Despite my current job, I am very interested in real estate investing, and seriously considering continuing my education with a Masters of Real Estate from NYU.

What kind of job/career change could benefit me in the long run world of real estate investing? (mortgage broker, realtor, contractor, property manager, etc)
