Fix and flip or buy and hold

I'm just starting out and will be getting my agent license in the next 2 months. I have a $500k LOC and want to do this as a side business. Getting my agent license to have more access and flexibility with searches and transactions. One friend who does the same suggested doing some flips first to generate cash flow for purchases, then begin buy and hold strategy. Does anyone have further suggestions or agree with initial recommendation and current plan? Thanks in advance, Mike
