Work for knowledge?
Do you think it would be a good idea to find those working in real estate in my area and offer help as far as task or labor in a flip or data entry in exchange for knowledge and mentorship? AM I selling myself short doing this? I want to learn my market are and how it works to best know what routes are profitable where I live and how to get started out in building my own portfolio.

@Jonathan Blandino I think that it's good idea. Currently I work in commercial real estate but am focused long term on the development side of things. I am going to be introduced to two developers through my family and my plan is to provide some free financial analysis and due diligence work in exchange for letting me be apart of their deal from start to finish.
I feel like it's a small price to pay because I'm hoping that down the track I could come into a few of their deals as an equity partner. If you think about it that way, you're not really working for free, you're foregoing up front fees for a larger and more lucrative return at a later date.
