How long did you soak in information?

My husband and I are starting to do the soak up of REI information. He started working in new home and remodel construction about 6 months ago and is going to school for a BA on construction management. We are wanting to do house flipping and also single family home remodel to rent. I am just curious how long other people did research and educated themselves before jumping into it. I know we aren't planning on doing it right away since we don't have any money current and between his work, our kids and his schooling we don't have the time we would want to put into it. What have been your personal best sources of information and learning.
