What all will a Noob like me need to finalize a deal?

I'm so so so close to financing my first property! The only hold up is the age of my credit history.

It will be best to better position myself for the next step, While I linger in limbo, yet the realtors and financiers will only give up short term step by step information without any advice for future preparation.

So my question to all the experienced real estate veterans is this..

What all does one need to purchase a property?

Also,

Worse case is I get turned down for a home loan, the back up plan is to purchase land cash money.

Do the same rules apply to land as in homes?

Thank you for taking the time to read my struggle and any advice or tips you bestow on this community.
