Newbie looking to invest in New Jersey

Currently a Federal Law Enforcement Officer and looking to invest in Real Estate in New Jersey. I'm in search of a Mentor to show me the ins and outs of Real Estate investing. I have read several books and have been watching BP podcast. I've been doing research in the central/north Jersey areas. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
