Learning the Taxes Side

I'm looking for a good, general introduction to tax savings for owning home(s.) We currently have 1 SFR rental and a primary residence. We have only had our rental since August. I tried to keep good records/receipts up until now but I can't help but feel I am either missing deductions, or other ways to minimize taxes owed.

I picked up the book Real estate tax secrets of the rick: big-time tax advantages of buying, selling and owning real estate by Sanford Botkin. Things I don't like are 1) it's outdated (2007 and pre-market crash) and 2) it is not basic enough for me. He starts off using terms that I don't know and doesn't explain the basics good enough for me to pick up on his tips.

Any great introductory books you all can recommend? Or do you all recommend just finding a great accountant and letting them inform me?
