First time landlord
Im thinking about renting out my home. Never done anything like this before. Im looking for helpful tips or steps to get me going in the right direction.

@Bill Lamont - Welcome to rentals. You should definitely check out the BP materials. I also put together a checklist (step-by-step guide) on the high level process flow steps (Leasing, Move-In, In-Tenancy, and Move-Out). Here it is ... feel free to print and check off each item as you go along.
Biggest pieces of advice to you:
- The most costly expense is a bad tenant. It's better to have a vacant unit than one with a bad tenant. So don't settle if the tenant does not fit your qualifiers (ability to pay rent, good history of paying on-time from credit report/score, has never been evicted, etc.)
- Communication is crucial. Make sure that you have the right channels of communication and proper documentation (leases, etc.).
Good luck and if any questions come up, feel free to ping me.
