One thing YOU should do today (not my idea)

Everyone who is starting out in REI needs to get their credit rating into the best shape possible. And I just had a little eye-opening experience that I thought I'd pass along.

I've got to thank a guy named @Brandon Turner for this.  It was a tip he tossed out during a podcast, and it has already paid off.

==> SIGN UP FOR CREDIT KARMA . <==

I don't think we're supposed to post URLs, but you can use your imagination on this one.  I have no affiliation with them, I just signed up after Brandon's recommendation. He has no affiliation with them either. It's free, they will give you your credit scores, and most importantly : they will update you if anything changes in your credit report.

Last week I got one of their alerts, and there it was : a derogatory remark put in my report by a collection agency.  I was completely unaware of the bill.  So I called the agency and said I thought it might be a mistake.  They told me they sent out one letter in August, and that was it.    I thought I had been keeping on top of things, but somehow that one letter slipped by.

Anyway, I was very polite and cooperative with the collections lady, and paid the balance in full.  She said that one week after the payment clears they would erase it from my credit report.  Since that one derog was pulling my credit down below the 760 range, this could potentially be saving me hundreds/thousands of $$$ of my next deal.

Thanks, BT !

Thanks, BP !
