Money, Time and Motivation - Monterey/Copperopolis Area

I have had the pleasure of collecting roughly $110k. I was curious as to how I begin investing. What are my options? What are the different types of investments? Where do I start? I would prefer to invest into multi family homes; lots with two separate living spaces. I would like to rent the other half out to live mortgage free, although I do not have a total understanding of how the process should take place. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
