Advice about Contractors on First Purchase

Hello Everyone,

I am getting closer to making my first purchase on a Buy and Hold property in the Okaloosa County area of Florida. My biggest concern is that the timing of the project will have me leaving the area and moving to North Carolina (military). This worries me because I won't be around to meet a contractor and oversee the project. My real estate agent assured me that he has some guys that can take care of it and I can be away for it, but he also mentioned hiring "hungry college kids". I have no problem hiring anyone that can get the job done, but who would be watching and making sure the work gets done correctly if I'm not around? This is all very new to me. Does this seem like a bad idea? Should I wait to embark in a project only when I can be around or has anyone had contractors do the work while you were somewhere else?
