Aquiring funding through money lending institutions

recently I listened to a podcast referring to peer to peer lending as a way of acquiring financing for deals.  Is this an acceptable and worthy way of getting funding for deals until relationships can be established with local money lenders outside of conventional banks?

I'm wondering because I am to meet with a local wholesaler and he wants me to bring financial backing with me when I go to speak with him. Other than something like "Prosper" I don't have contacts yet for financing and don't exactly know how to get started in that?
