Hi guys I'm a beginner investor(if you can say that I haven't invested in anything yet). Im 30 years old and I live in the hampton roads area of virginia. I'm an electrician by trade. Anyways my goal is to buy my first investment property sometime after January next year. I'm trying to find all the info I can before I make the leap. I'm trying to reach a goal of 15000 dollars for my first down payment. Does this sound like a good start to my first investment? I know there is a wealth of knowledge on the forums but any advice for me just starting?

Welcome to BP, Dustin!  I hope you find the site as helpful as I have.

Good luck in starting your investing.  Only advice I would offer you at this point is to remember that in addition to down payment you will of course have initial expenses for closing costs, renovations (if needed), and insurance.  Best wishes and good luck!!
