Finding Local Support/Mentoring

I am new to the forum and have yet to begin my REI adventures. One day (soon) I am looking to get into rental properties for the long haul. After reading a bunch of the threads (still plenty left!) I have noticed that a lot of people recommend the REI clubs and meetings.

Well, unfortunately, I live in Vermont and there don't appear to be any such clubs in my area. I have looked here (only one listed is a couple hours away and has no set meeting times, etc), on other sites, and even on Craigslist.

I am a big believer in seeking out advice and counsel from those more experienced. I think that this board is a big help in that regard. But obviously a local group/mentor would be good to have.

Long story short, any suggestions or thoughts for someone in my situation? Maybe I am missing something.
