getting started

I am new to real estate and I am looking for answers to questions I have not even thought about yet.  In other words I don't know what I don't know.  I have done some mentoring and have a goal of getting some cash flow, then going to rentals for passive income.

I currently don't have any capitol to purchase my first deal. I was led to believe that I could market and find deal that I could wholesale. That seems to be impossible, anything that goes onto the MLS right now will sell. Housing is in such demand that is seems right now there is now way to get a foot in the door.

Can anyone help this rookie get the ball rolling?
