title search and what information it won't cover?

As a newbie, I would like to know that how can I perform a title search for potential leads? What kind of information it will cover and it won't ?

Does it make sense to do it online (any good referral/contacts?) or drive down to county cleark's office for every single detail all the time?Will it be possible for any title company to provide a free search as we are going to provide them the business.

I heard it costs 400-500/property whether you able to buy those potential leads or not... In this case what is the best approach to minimize the expenses for the begginers? Thanks in advance.
