Want to become a landlord who owns multiple properties one day... Is this a good start?

Posted this on Reddit, but would probably reach a bigger (no pun intended) audience.

My Dad owns a home but has no intention on scaling his properties as he is heavily involved in his actual work as a minister. He tells me he could make this a profitable system and is willing to share his knowledge if I'm willing to work for it and stay committed. Again he does not promise it will be easy nor riches, but his famous saying "someone is making money with _____, why not you?"

What I want to start doing is start reading books on changing my attitude and (recent college grad) start pursuing this instead of my law enforcement career. I will also pursue a realestate license ASAP.
