CA Brokers License - Equivalent Experience- Property Management

Kathryn Cummins
Posted

Hello all,

I am in the very beginning stages of setting up a property management company (just me- no other employees). I started studying for my CA Real Estate Salesperson license as I initially thought that was all I needed. After further research, it looks like I need a CA Real Estate Brokers license if I want to work for myself/have my own LLC and business name.

With that said, I don't have the 2 years as a salesperson experience required for the Brokers license, but I do have over 8 years in property management experience. I own 2 properties, which I have been managing for over 8 years (and still do) and I also have managed property owned by a relative.

The CA DRE states that property management can be included as equivalent experience, but they don't necessarily elaborate. Has anyone submitted form RE 227 as it relates to previous property management experience? If so, I would love to know how that process went!

Thank you!
