Home Ownership through Fixer-Upper

So this is my first post and I am very new to real estate. I would like to buy a house, but currently do not have enough saved for a down payment. I am curious about the process of improving a fixer-upper myself, but I have never undertaken any project remotely like it. Is there anyone in the Riverside area who is planning on rehabbing or improving a house that I could come and help out for a day? Again, not skilled in this area, but offering to work for free to learn.
