Newbie REI here

Nitish Gupta
Posted

Hi guys,

I am very much interested in starting my REI journey from scratch. Hoping to build a portfolio strong enough to live off-of in 15-20 years. Recently relocated to Connecticut and would love to get in touch with fellow investors in the area.

@Nitish Gupta - CT real estate investor here.  I'd recommend you join some meetups.  CTREIA, @Stephanie Cabral, @Devin Peterson, @Ryan Luby, @Brandon Rush all have great meetups to meet like minded people.  I'm actually giving a talk on this very topic in New Britain today in Brandon's meetup!

In general, you want to buy in areas you are willing to hold long term.  No one really makes any money in real estate the first few years, especially in CT.  Our housing stock is so old and so many people have bandaided problems for so long that you will be nickle and dimed by repair expenses for a few years until you get everything really squared away.  There are lots of places in central CT that cash flow really well.  I like Middletown (where I grew up) and continue to invest there.  Other good towns are Bristol, New Britain, Meriden, East Hartford, Manchester.  They are solid C class markets.  If you want to go a bit more upscale (better tenants but houses cost more), you would go to Wallingford, Berlin, Southington, Cromwell, Rocky Hill, Plainville, Wethersfield, Newington.

DM me if you want to discuss this further.
