My husband and I are very very new in REI... WE would like a mentor! We want to make educated decisions and need a little help in different areas. We live in the Winston-Salem area. PLEASE contact me if you think you can help, or know of one that can. Our starting goal is to wholesale. (however, we have some pretty good knowledge about general remodeling/construction).. Any ideas? thank you in advance

Advertising for a mentor is much like a deer trotting through a firing range.

I'd suggest you first attend a real estate school for real estate agents to start out. No need to take the test or become an agent.

Absolutely the best way to start. You'll understand state laws, deeds, transactions and settlements, marketing, financing, title issues, appraisal techniques and valuations along with how agents must function, what they can and can't do. You'll also make contacts with new agents that, if nothing else, can get you access to the MLS.

You can spend years trying to follow some niche strategy and never learn the basics of RE. Starting in some niche is being a technician on one machine you'll never be an engineer to devise your own deals out of different situations unless you know the basics.

Then, you'll be able to vet any mentor, you'll know if they know what they are talking about or if they are snake oil sales types with strategies and programs that are designed to separate you from your money. :)
