Financing options when mortgage is hard to qualify for

Curious what alternative financing options are recommended for people looking to get started in rentals. I currently have a good income, but it is very low W2 income, and the rest is commission. Over the past several years as a commission employee I have not claimed a lot on taxes which is making it harder for me to qualify for a second mortgage. 

Just wondering what is recommended to help me get started in buying rentals.
