Lessons I learned In My DIY Project
Welcome to an electrifying adventure of home remodeling! Picture this: you, armed with a toolkit, transforming a house from outdated to dazzling, all on your own. It's not just about the satisfaction of witnessing the incredible transformation; it's about the valuable lessons learned along the way. Join me on this exhilarating journey as I share my top lessons and money-saving tips from taking on a full-scale home renovation solo. Strap in, folks, because we're about to embark on an adrenaline-pumping ride!
The Power of Preparation: Brace yourself for a wild ride as we unlock the first key lesson: PREPARATION is everything. Before you whip out your paintbrush or unsheathe your trusty hammer, take a moment to plan every detail meticulously. From creating a budget to envisioning your dream design, preparation ensures that you're in control of every twist and turn. Embrace the thrill of researching materials, comparing prices, and sketching blueprints. By laying a solid foundation of preparation, you'll save yourself from unexpected detours, and multiple Lowes trips on the SAME DAY, ensuring a smooth journey toward a stunning result. Ordering material and being prepared ahead of time will save you money. This also takes into play when going to do the work. Plan- set the tools that you will need to the side and accessible. You'd be surprised by the amount of time that is lost looking for that 10mm
The thrill of diving headfirst into the world of DIY remodeling! Brace yourself for a rollercoaster of emotions as every day you are a new tradesman. I went from being a plumber one day to an electrician the next then a carpenter the next. Sure, there may be a few stumbles along the way, but the joy of witnessing your newfound expertise is unmatched. You must adapt to learning new practices and watching a lot of YOUTUBE. Don't be afraid of asking for help on social media and going to youtube university. It is very informative. At the same time don't be afraid to call a pro when needed. It can cost more time and money in having to redo things because they weren't done correctly. As we say in Spanish "lo barrato sale carro" meaning the low cost can become expensive.
Our next lesson will have you buzzing with excitement as we explore how to achieve remarkable results without breaking the bank. Transforming a house into your dream home doesn't have to drain your savings. Get ready to uncover the secrets of upcycling, thrifting, and repurposing materials. From salvaging vintage fixtures to breathing new life into tired furniture, the possibilities are endless. Let your imagination soar! Here you go, saving money by going to Habitat for Humanity to restore and find material. Facebook Marketplace is a great source as well. Many people have an overstock of things they bought in their own remodel that can be useful to you. Don't be afraid to thrift shop. Take advantage of the big box store and its pro plans with large order discounts. The two biggest stores for example have a bidding room. If you are buying all materials at once they will get you a large discount. One time I received 30% off my whole order over $2000.00. It does not need to be a significantly huge amount. Always buy a little extra! Especially when it comes to wood. The last thing you want to be mid-project and have to go back to the store. Buying larger quantity packages comes out cheaper in the long run. If you need electrical outlets buy the pro pack. It comes out cheaper per item and as investors, we will always need them. However, take each item into consideration as the small amounts add up. $30 here, $20 here another $10 here will end up costing a lot.
As any seasoned DIYer will tell you, the road to renovation success is paved with challenges and unexpected twists. But fear not, for each obstacle is an opportunity to tap into your inner resilience. Embrace the electrifying rush of overcoming setbacks, from unforeseen repairs to time constraints. Remember, it's not just about the destination—it's about the thrilling journey that transforms you into a fearless, resourceful homeowner. Celebrate each victory, big or small, and revel in the satisfaction of a job well done!
Remember, the world of DIY remodeling is not for the faint of heart, but for those who dare to dream and create a home that truly reflects their spirit. ALWAYS MEASURE TWICE!!! Happy remodeling, my fellow adventurers!
