General Questions on Shipping Container homes..

Bert Rich
Posted

Newby here seeking to find a niche......  I know it's likely city and zip specific, but in most places, could someone put a small container home on their property and rent it out?  Example,, Could you turn a duplex into a triplex or make a container home a mother in law or adu?  If so, are there a lot of loopholes to approve?

Quote from @Henry Clark:

See if you would need to go through a permitting process.  If so they will probably require engineered prints.  Getting them will be the hurdle you will need to accomplish.  That and the cost.

If you go ahead and do it without permitting, you will run into trouble if you refi or try to sale.

one of my buddies created a container home manufactoring bizz.. its taken him years and many millions.. at least in OR WA CA getting these approved through the building department was years in the process.. Also lenders are tough so most of if not all of his sales are for cash. Lastly he is doing very nice upscale ones and frankly they cost more than stick built for same sq ft.  Relevanthomes dot com I believe is his website.
