Mentor 12- Graduating High School

My two high school helpers put a full day in today.  Planting trees in the cold mist today.  Then traveling 40 minutes away to help on storm wind damage from last night.

They both graduate in a month.  Luke will go into HVAC.  Nate was going into the marines but his asthma DQ’d him. He will stay local but figure out his next path.

I told them to follow their plans. After one year if they are still in the area to look me up. Ask themselves where they are at? What their lives will look 5 years down the road. If they want then I'll introduce them to REI. Key thing is they have to see the hourly pay and corporate world to understand looking for more.
Very few people will ever jump off the cliff into REI.  It’s to risky if you already have a solid day job and commitments. One year out of high school they won’t have much to loose.

My son is currently trying to figure out life. I would love to offer him a job as a handyman or to manage storage units for me, but he just hasn't shown the maturity or expressed an interest. I hope some day he'll come to me for mentoring.
