Best Markets for Section 8 Investing Today?

Hey BiggerPockets fam! I am a young investor and want to start my real estate portfolio with section 8 properties. I would love to help provide others with affordable and safe housing while accomplishing my dreams of investing in real estate at the same time! I have been looking around the St. Louis, MO area as it meets my budget but from what I have gathered there is a waiting list for these applications. Is this the case for all markets and if so what do you guys recommend for taking the first step to getting started in this niche?
