Lots of ???? from a newbie!

I've been reading like crazy, listening to podcasts, scouring the internet, but I still don't fell like I know enough to get started. This sounds stupid but I seriously don't know what I don't know. What should I research before I do my first deal? I know I don't understand loans enough, is there a book out there that explains loans? Also, is there an article, boo, blog, anything that explains in detail the process of flipping and/or wholesaling a property? Last question, I heard on a podcast that because wholesales can be complicated it is probably not the best thing for a first-time investor to do, any suggestions or opinions on what is?
