Seller asked if I wanted to move in before closing

My rate lock for my mortgage is about to expire. The seller of the property I am trying to buy really dragged his feet to get to the closing so I asked if he could pay for the rate lock extension since it really is his fault. He offered to let me move in early so that I wouldn't have to pay rent at my apartment (rent is due on the 15th) and then I could re-allocate the money I would have used for rent to pay for the rate lock extension. Something feels off about moving in before closing, is that a normal thing? Not to mention that is extremely fast to move everything in, the place is a dump and my wife wanted to really deep clean before we put our stuff in there. It was previously occupied by a hoarder with three dogs and four cats so it's pretty nasty.

Quote from @Nathan Holt:

I would stick with your plan. Make him pay the extension or walk away. You're already taking a risk on purchasing a property in this condition; don't make it worse by letting him play games with you.
