What job(s) would best teach someone the skills/knowledge necessary to be a successful real estate investor?

If you can learn how to manage rentals, the rest is much easier. For that reason, I recommend getting into property management. You'll quickly learn the law, policies and procedures that work, how to screen applicants, what makes a good rental vs. what is a constant headache, etc. You'll earn a decent income while quickly learning how to manage. You may even get the opportunity to purchase investments off-market, which is what I did for most of my investments.
