New Jersey RE License Needed??

Jonathan Robledo
Posted

Hi BP-

I am new to BiggerPockets (joined today) and have spent the last few weeks diving into the first 20 episodes of the podcast in hopes to learn everything I can about real estate investing.
I work at a large software company and have been in the Tech industry for about 15 years, but have developed an interest for real estate over the last 5.  I think my light bulb moment was when I realized that the condo that I was renting in Brooklyn in 2017 was worth 100% more than what the owners paid for it around 2009-2010.  Although the situation and timing of that example is unique, I loved the concept of monthly cash flow and equity/appreciation as a vehicle for wealth building.
I’m looking for the right ways to continue my learning and have heard multiple times on the podcast that getting your agent license can be beneficial.  My goal is to purchase my first investment property in the next 12-18 months and wasn’t sure if the reasons described on the podcast aligned to a newbie like myself that isn’t actively hunting for a deal to close on today.
I like the idea of having an agent license but also worry that the Broker/Company wouldnt want to “take on” someone that isn’t actively selling properties even on a part time basis.

I’m curious to hear feedback from the community and I’m excited to finally dive into the forums/conversations moving forward.
Thanks,

JR
