Seeking Advice On The Path That Should Be Taken

I'm Fairly New to REI. But, I have a few questions inregards on my position. I am near the Chicagoland area. I've heard/followed people that were/are Mentored by someone that has been successfully involved in Real Estate. Besides all of this Education, Discussions, etc-etc through BP... Should obtaining a Mentor be something worth looking into or something that any of you would advise. Or even interning with Real Estate Investors to try to get a hands on feel on the ins & outs. If getting a Mentor is something people agree on. How should I go about getting one near my area?
