Can you set up Section 8 housing under a nonprofit?

I would eventually like to get into owning/managing Section 8 properties. I was curious, since the purpose of Section 8 housing is to help lower income families have affordable housing, is it possible to have real estate properties under a nonprofit organization if the real estate is solely Section 8 housing? If so, has anyone done this and find it to be more beneficial than having it under an LLC structure?

I ask because I have been involved with a few nonprofits and so if this structure is allowed, despite the additional loopholes required for a nonprofit, I would prefer this over an LLC for tax purposes.
