General Question about property management company.

Hi! My name is James Kelly and I'm currently studying civil engineering at Cal Poly school of engineering in San Luis Obispo. My parents run a successful property management company and are planning to retire in the near future. It's my mother and stepdad and they manage about 180 units, and they make a good living from it. I am interested in taking over the company after I establish a good job as a civil engineer. Would it be possible or totally insane to try to take it over? Could I own the business and hire a manager and agents to run it without problems? Could someone give me some suggestions on where to start with this? I don't have a real estate or property management license but I've grown up around this business And know it well. Thank you so much!
