Best entity for rei w/ partner

all,

This is my first post as I am new to the site. i am looking for advice on what entity would be the best to start up with a partner. Initially I was going to start buying and renting property and have looked into a llc and am also starting to look at a series llc as I am planning to eventually having property in multiple states. A former co worker and I are looking to invest together. Which entity would be best to keep us both protected?
