How do I set goals?

I have a little note book about 5"x7" I write my todo list. Even the little things like laundry, mailing a letter, calling someone, Spending time with the family are on the Daily todo list. Little goals like this will help you on the big ones. I have been looking at a cell phone so I can eliminate this little book. I keep forgetting it when I get the next great idea, I always have my cell with me. I just can't justify the $300 price tag yet.

The big ones are alot harder that might include little benchmarks. One of my annually goals is to invest $70k a year. Not sure if I will make it this year. I trend my progress and it makes my blood boil if I'm way off track.

I don't really tell anyone my goals. I'm on a mission. My goals are for me and me alone.

I think that very true, because something I look at goals and want to put them off for later, I ll let the people at my rei club know my situation.

Oh yeah. you hit the nail on the head with that one. Hold yourself accoutable, but why not have an accountability partner or team. At my rei club here in Chicago we urge people to share their goals for the next month with others so that at the next meeting they can be held accountable. We also have a small post meeting gathering that we call an Accountability group that meets at a restaurant nearby that is open late.

With that being said, not only do you have to be held accountable but don't forget to reward yourself for attaining your goals as well.

After you've written your goals down, there is a HUGE step
that most people forget.  That is accountability.  You have to
let someone know what your goals are.

I find that when you set goals and let others know, they will hold
you accountable.  They ask you how this or that project is going.

Another way to use this is to set up a inhouse mastermind group.

Get together with other agents in your office that have similar interests.  Then you work together in setting goals, over coming obsticles and support each other.

So make sure you do both things suggested in this topic-
1.  Write it down
2.  Get someone to hold you accountable.

How do you meet these people, what do you do to start the conversation.

when i go to these  meeting most of this people are newbie as well. 
I try to make eye contact smile and then move from there, but most of the time they try to avoid me I think there shy as well.

should I try more ire clubs and just try more hard next time?

thanks, I think i am going to start from a 6 month period first like doing my first deal.

work schedule: mon-fri 6am to 2:30pm

work on my rei business schedule: 3pm to 5pm 
total hour: 10 hours 
with in those hour I need to find out whats gonna get me ahead and not just get me by.

I have an index card I carry around that helps maintain.

For me, going to the REIA meetings has been great.  I'm getting an idea of what the local climate is like and I'm also meeting all kinds of people there.  Agents, appraisers, all different kinds of investors, tax advisors, etc...  In my area, they're all great people and willing to answer all of my newbie questions.  It's helped me to see how I can go from where I am to where I'd like to be.  Before, I just wanted to get there, but didn't know even where to start.

You set goals daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, 5 years out, 10 years out.

The first thing you need to do, is start with the end in mind. What is your goal for real estate investing 10 years from now? Then work backwards and find out what you have to do to achieve that goal.

Also, remember if it's not written, it's not a goal.

You should never go to bed at night, if you do not have your "TO DO" list made out for the day ahead which will help you accomplish your goals.
