What Makes a Brokerage Worth Joining?

Hey BP community,

I’m in the early stages of launching my own real estate brokerage and I’m just trying to understand what matters to agents (and brokers) when it comes to joining a brokerage — whether you’re a newer agent or a top producer.

Let’s be honest: if someone’s doing well at their current brokerage, they probably won’t switch easily. But what would make you consider it?

So I’m asking:

  • What do you expect from a broker?

  • What are non-negotiables for you?

  • What are dealbreakers?

  • What support, structure, or vision makes you feel like you’re building something, not just grinding?

  • If you did switch in the past, why?

Also, be real with me:
If a new boutique brokerage with killer branding and no listings yet approached you, what would make you take a meeting at all?

Thanks in advance — I want to build something that doesn’t waste people’s time. Appreciate every perspective, even the hard truths.

Located in central NJ, if anyone's curious.

Jennifer
